While it might seem as easy as packing your bags and driving away, leaving an abusive partner is one of the most difficult choices a victim can make, and telling their story afterwards is even harder. It's estimated that at least three women are killed by intimate partners each day in the US – over 1,000 per year.
That's why stories of survival are so important, and Imgur user krissykross decided to break the silence and share hers, and she’s clearly struck a chord.
Through a series of screenshots of text conversations, we learn about Adam, her physically, sexually, and emotionally abusive ex-husband. “Strangers on the internet are better than keeping it inside for so long,” she wrote about her decision to open up three years after the end of it all. Her post has now been viewed over 600,000 times, and it's not hard to see why.
